Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

About the Role

We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer to lead the company's technology vision, engineering team, and product development efforts. The CTO will define the technical roadmap, make critical architecture decisions, and ensure the engineering organisation delivers reliable, scalable products.

The ideal candidate has built and led engineering teams in Nigeria or across Africa, understands the infrastructure constraints and opportunities unique to this market, and can balance innovation with practical execution.

This role requires both technical depth and executive presence. The CTO will represent the technology function at the board level and work closely with the CEO, product, and commercial teams to drive business outcomes through technology.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the company's technology strategy and multi-year technical roadmap.
• Lead and grow the engineering team, establishing hiring standards, culture, and professional development.
• Make key architecture and technology stack decisions that balance performance, scalability, and cost.
• Oversee product development lifecycle from ideation through deployment and iteration.
• Ensure security, data privacy, and compliance with NDPR (Nigeria Data Protection Regulation) and relevant standards.
• Manage technology budgets, vendor relationships, and infrastructure costs.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and determine their applicability to the business.
• Report on technology performance, uptime, and development velocity to the CEO and board.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering or technology leadership, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree is a plus.
• Strong technical background with hands-on experience in modern software architectures, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps practices.
• Proven track record of building and scaling engineering teams.
• Understanding of the Nigerian tech ecosystem, infrastructure challenges (connectivity, power), and local developer talent market.
• Experience with product development in high-growth or startup environments.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Experience building products specifically for Nigerian or African users (payments, logistics, fintech, etc.).
• Familiarity with NCC regulations for telecoms-related products or CBN guidelines for fintech.
• Open-source contributions or visible thought leadership in the tech community.
• Experience with data engineering, AI/ML implementation, or blockchain technology.
