About the Role

We are looking for a qualified and detail-oriented Accountant to manage the financial records, reporting, and compliance functions of our organisation. The ideal candidate will ensure that all financial transactions are accurately recorded, reports are prepared in accordance with applicable standards, and statutory obligations are met on time.

As an Accountant, you will be responsible for preparing monthly and annual financial statements, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements, and supporting the annual audit process. You will also ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws and regulatory requirements.

This role requires a strong foundation in accounting principles, proficiency with accounting software, and a thorough understanding of the Nigerian financial and regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and Nigerian accounting standards.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax regulations, including VAT, WHT, PAYE, and Company Income Tax filings with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded and classified.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules and providing required documentation.
  • Prepare and manage the payroll, ensuring accurate computation of salaries, deductions, and statutory remittances.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support management decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Professional accounting certification: ACA (ICAN) or ACCA qualification is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in an accounting role.
  • Thorough understanding of IFRS and Nigerian financial reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and regulatory compliance (FIRS, state tax authorities).
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, or SAP.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including financial modelling and advanced formulas.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and organisational skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP.
  • Familiarity with pension administration and remittances to PFAs under the Nigerian Pension Reform Act.
  • Experience in the specific industry of the hiring organisation (e.g., oil and gas, manufacturing, financial services).
  • Knowledge of management accounting and cost accounting principles.
